![]() I recorded that figure and chose to make the stairway turn to the left (counterclockwise) when walking up.īut first I had to consider a few building code requirements in order to lay out the stairway. The total height from the concrete foundation to the top of the top step was exactly 9 feet or 108 inches. I needed just one measurement to get started: the total rise. And with that, you can simulate having those fluid with columns. With responsive resize off, then when you shrink the parent, you can see that the internal shapes are shrinking down as well. Then you actually need to turn responsive resize off like I have here. So if you wanna have a layout like this where you have two boxes inside or however many boxes inside, and you want them to stay flexible, you want them to retain the ability to be resized. Now with responsive resize switched on, if I shrink things, you're gonna get this issue where the boxes are protruding outside their parent element. Where it doesn't work so well, is if you wanna have true columns side by side. So we've got basically the same as a flexible percentage based div in a website lab for example. Now, when I resize this element, put responsive resize on, everything resizes quite well. So by default what we're looking at here simulates having a single column, so the dark rectangle inside a parent container. So I wanna show you how responsive resize operates in relation to having those flexible columns. And you can actually set up your artboards in XD, to simulate flexible columns, which is something we're going to go into more later. I talked earlier about the fact that you want to have flexible columns wherever possible. All right, we'll have a look at another couple of examples to show you more about how to work with responsive resize. So just bear that in mind that if things are not responding how you expect them to, you might need to either go in and change these constraints, or turn off responsive resize all together. But sometimes it's actually gonna guess wrong, and when that happens you're going to need to turn off responsive resize. But with responsive resize, XD will do its best to try to guess which constraints are appropriate for different elements. In other programs, you need to manually apply constraints depending on what's appropriate for each object. And that automatic application of constraints is what makes responsive resize different to constraints in other programs. The object on the left was automatically told to anchor itself on the left, and vice versa with the object on the right. And you'll also notice that these constraints were automatically applied. Both of them have fixed width and height. And this one is being anchored on the left side. So if we go into the responsive settings for each of these by hitting Manual, you can see here, this one is being told to maintain its position relative to the right-hand edge. Or if I shrink the other way, the object in the left stays in the left. And now if I shrink down the parent here, you'll see that the object on the right stays on the right. For example, we've got here two objects that both have responsive resize activated on them. So the easiest way to communicate what these actually do is gonna be to show you with some example shapes. So, you have the ability to fix the width to a set width, or fix the height to a set height. And you've got constraints that control the width and height of the object. So in a nutshell, you've got constraints that control how far the object is from the edges, so that's these ones here. These constraints are pretty much the same as constraints that you would see in other software, if you've worked with constraints before, it's really not that different. And in here you can see that what we have is basically a system of constraints. So to show you what it actually does, I'm going to switch from automatic mode into manual mode. So the first thing that you'll need to know, is if you wanna turn it off, just click that little toggle there to turn it off. You'll see that we have this responsive resize sections, and it's automatically turned on by default. So I'm just gonna draw just a regular square, then open the right side by here. So let's take a quick look at what it does. This is a tool that you can use to help you speed along the process of adapting new content from one artboard into the next size artboard. In this we're gonna check out Adobe XD's responsive resize functionality. I tried to sit up, but my head ached abominably and I groaned, then clutched his arm as it all came back to me.īut what truly filled me with joy was that he had forgiven me at last, and we were friends once more. She addressed her first question to Tanus. QUEEN LOSTRIS CALLED HER WAR COUNCIL when the news of the Hyksos crossing reached us in the Palace of Memnon. Therefore, since I could do nothing to allay these fears, I thought it best to keep them to myself. I had searched my heart for a counter to this move when Salitis and Intef made it, but there was none that I could think of. I had realized that this must happen, but I had refrained from warning either Tanus or my mistress of the likelihood, for I did not wish to add to the feeling of gloom, and heighten the despondency of our people. However, there must be droves of renegade Egyptians from the usurper's navy available to Salitis, and even if that were not the case, it would certainly be possible to recruit enough mercenary Syrian sailors in Gaza and Joppa, and the other ports along the eastern coast of the great sea, to man several hundred of these galleys and transports. Those ships were lying abandoned in the docks of Memphis and Tanis in the Delta. We knew that when he swept through the Lower Kingdom, Salitis had captured most of the fleet of the red pretender intact. It was the enemy's logical move, and both Salitis and Lord Intef should have made it much earlier. Secretly, I had expected and dreaded what would happen next. THE SUCCESS OF MY CHARIOTS AT ESNA, and the feeling of confidence that it instilled in us all, were short-lived. Their horses are in the traces and they are coming on a cloud of dust, swiftly as the flight of the swallow. They swam the horses over as they did before, but this time there were none of our galleys ready to turn back their boats. The messenger stuttered in fear of his life, "Divine Majesty, while our fleet was busy at Asyut, the barbarian made another crossing at Esna. "Now that he is across the river, can you check the barbarian?" All our galleys could do was to ny to keep pace with the dust-cloud he threw up, as he raced for the funerary temple of Mamose and all its treasures. There was nothing to stop him now, as his chariots came bowling southwards along our side of the river. These regiments comprised nearly three hundred of Salitis" fast war chariots, his elite divisions which he led himself. His fleet was superior in every way to the one which Salitis and Intef had assembled, but the battle they fought lasted for almost a week before Tanus destroyed or drove them back into the Delta. When it finally happened, and our spies on the east side of the river opposite Asyut warned us of the approach of this fleet from the Delta, Tanus rushed his own ships northwards to meet them. I will not ride with you again until you do something about them." However, those new-fangled wheels of yours " are more dangerous than a regiment of Hyksos. "If I am to have five hundred of those contraptions of yours for my new chariot division, I will need a thousand of those cursed brutes to pull them. I have already sent Hui to gather them up," he assured me. "Don't worry that battered head of yours". They are our only hope for eventual victory." If I am given the time and the material, I can build new and better chariots with wheels that do not burst, but I cannot replace the horses. Salitis will overwhelm and destroy us very easily. My chariots are swifter than those of Salitis, but my men cannot match his in skill and training. "Your Majesty, I have forty chariots that I can send in to meet him. "The gods cannot desert this very Egypt now. "No" my mistress's voice shook with the force of her denial. When we were alone, Tanus said softly, "Salitis has four regiments across the river. I must know what the gods require of us." I ask you to work the Mazes of Ammon-Ra for me. But I must ask you now before I make the final decision. "Taita, I have not asked you before, because I know how dearly it costs you. ![]() She has been with Associated Retinal Consultants since completion of her fellowship in 2005.ĭr.
